AFTERSCHOOL CLASSES

As part of our commitment to giving back to the community, we have an ongoing AfterSchool Classes Project in Cambodia in collaboration with the Shinta Mani Foundation and Passion4Change. This project currently benefits 70 students in rural Cambodia. Our goal is to strengthen the English language skills of students from disadvantaged communities in these areas. We have incorporated ideas and concepts of conscious living, compassion, animal welfare, conservation, recycling and environmental protection into a separate curriculum. This curriculum is presented in an English Activity Book named ‘Compassionate Citizens of the Future’, designed by our dedicated volunteer team from India, including Nayan, Avantika, Ritambhara, Rucha, Nitai, Julie Wayne, Subhash, Climate Save India, and others.

In addition to the interactive and informative English Activity Book, there is a nutrition guide and memory games related to nutrition, created by Marly Wrinckler, Milena Dias, and their team. We believe that high-quality education should not only focus on academic subjects but also on compassion.

Our journey began in 2022, welcoming 35 eager children, aged 8 to 14, into our newly constructed school classroom and library. We then expanded to serve over 58 students, providing them with not just a place to learn, but a sanctuary. From constructing libraries to installing essential facilities, and from embarking on educational excursions to the Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary and Phare Circus, we have crafted an enriching experience that goes beyond the classroom walls.

In July 2023, we embarked on a mission to further enhance our learning environment by adorning our school with captivating murals. These murals depict breathtaking scenes of nature, enchanting animals, empowering messages, and images from our afterschool curriculum, including our very own mascot, ‘PEACEFUL’. These murals cultivate compassion, environmental consciousness, and the pursuit of knowledge. We believe that an immersive and visually stimulating environment will engage the students’ senses and ignite their passion for learning. These artworks pay homage to Cambodia’s rich heritage and, most importantly, the fellow nonhuman inhabitants, fostering a sense of belonging and appreciation within the school community.

We are also working on books to teach climate change and compassion to the students.

In 2024, our commitment to education continues to grow as we expand our reach to around 70 students across three sessions, supported by a dedicated full-time teacher. This expansion is a testament to our dedication to making a meaningful impact in the lives of Cambodia’s youth. We also recently supported the school with printers to make knowledge easily accessible.

These murals depict breathtaking scenes of nature, enchanting animals, empowering messages, and even images from our afterschool curriculum including our very own mascot ‘PEACEFUL’ that cultivates compassion, environmental consciousness, and the pursuit of knowledge. We are hopeful that an immersive and visually stimulating environment will engage the students’ senses and ignites their passion for learning. We take immense pride in the profound impact these murals might have on students and anyone who is visiting the school in Cambodia. Through art, we inspire, educate, and uplift young hearts and minds.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to our incredible team in Cambodia, Vegan Travel Asia travelers, and our generous donors.
