When people think of Vietnam, the first images that often come to mind are mist-covered mountains, bustling motorbike-filled streets, lantern-lit alleyways, and steaming bowls of phở. And yes, you’ll find all that here, but this sprawling, culturally rich nation that stretches an incredible 1,025 miles (1,650 kilometers) from north to south along the eastern edge of mainland Southeast Asia is far more than the sum of its postcard moments.
This is a land that cradles a staggering diversity of landscapes and lives: from the windswept limestone cliffs of Ha Long Bay to the sun-drenched rice paddies of the Red River Delta, from ancient citadels whispering stories of fallen dynasties to resilient ethnic communities tucked into forested valleys, holding tightly to their ancestral traditions. Vietnam is home to 54 officially recognized ethnic groups, each with distinct languages, textiles, festivals, spiritual beliefs, and foodways — all woven into a vibrant cultural tapestry that stretches from the lush highlands of the north to the tranquil beaches of the central coast.
Shaped by generations of migration, colonization, resistance, and revival, Vietnam is a place of both quiet reverence and energetic reinvention. It is a country where French colonial villas and Buddhist pagodas sit side by side, where traditional medicine coexists with punk rock vegan cafes, and where ancient farming practices blend with modern efforts to protect endangered species and regenerate the land. It’s a country scarred by war but pulsing with hope, guided by strong community ties, deep respect for ancestors, and an enduring love of nature.
Join us on this carefully crafted Vegan Travel Asia journey – an immersive exploration of Vietnam’s past, present, and future. Go beyond the tourist path to sit down with farmers and forest rangers, chat with chefs and students, learn from bear rescue workers and village elders, and reconnect with the land through slow, meaningful travel. And yes, you’ll eat. From sizzling vegan bánh xèo on the street to thoughtfully prepared temple-inspired meals, each bite tells a story – all 100% vegan and made with love.
This is Vietnam – raw, beautiful, complex, compassionate, and constantly evolving. Come discover its spirit through the people who call it home, the food that nourishes them, and the land they fight to protect.

Day 1 HO CHI MINH CITY
Xin chào Việt Nam! Welcome to Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) – Vietnam’s southern metropolis, a vibrant blend of tradition, transformation, and tropical energy. Formerly known as Saigon, this dynamic city sits on the banks of the Saigon River and has long been a cultural and economic crossroad – first as part of the ancient Khmer Empire, then under Vietnamese rule, and later shaped by French colonialists, Chinese merchants, and American influence during the 20th century. The result is a captivating urban mosaic of colonial-era architecture, incense-filled temples, bustling motorbike-packed streets, and a rapidly growing vegan movement rooted in centuries-old religious tradition.
We’ll begin in the morning with a Vietnam Orientation — a chance to get to know each other and give you a proper introduction to the country you’ll be travelling through over the next two weeks.
By lunchtime, we’ll be ready for our first introduction to Vietnamese vegan food. Vegan and vegetarian cooking has deep roots here, shaped in part by Vietnam’s Buddhist traditions and a rich culture of cơm chay — vegan cooking built around tofu, mushrooms, vegetables, herbs, rice and soy products. Some dishes recreate familiar protein-based favourites; others have always been naturally vegan.
Over the next two weeks, we’ll taste both — in restaurants and street-food stalls, temples and family kitchens.
In the afternoon, we’ll discover Vietnam through another language: music. We’ll be welcomed into a Music House, where we’ll meet a family dedicated to preserving traditional Vietnamese music. We’ll sit close to the musicians, discover unfamiliar instruments and hear some of the stories behind their sounds.
Then comes our Vegan Meet-Up, where we’ll meet members of Saigon’s vegan community for dinner. We’ll eat together, ask questions, exchange stories and ideas across cultures, languages, Vietnam, travel — or anything else that comes up. By the end of your first day, you’ll already have eaten something new, heard something unexpected, and met people you’d never have crossed paths with as a typical tourist.
Highlights of the Day:
- Welcome Vegan Lunch – a flavor-filled introduction to Vietnam’s colorful vegan cuisine.
- Detailed Orientation Meeting where you’ll learn about local Vietnamese cultures, traditions, etiquette, language, dos and don’ts, veganism, and much more as we enjoy local snacks and get to know our fellow travelers and adventure leaders.
- Introduction of traditional Vietnamese Instruments. Live traditional performance.
- Vegan Dinner and Local Meet-Up – sharing stories with members of Vietnam’s vegan community.
Vegan Meals Included Today: Lunch and Dinner
I have traveled on seven adventures so far, and the personal attention, the detail of the experience, the food, and so on, surpass any other tour groups I have traveled with. Unbelievably fantastic experiences! I have traveled solo with Vegan Travel Asia (VegVoyages) and truly never felt alone.
Day 2 HO CHI MINH CITY to HOI AN
Waking up in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, we’ll enjoy a traditional Vietnamese vegan breakfast before heading off to a local university to meet the students. This isn’t a formal lecture where one side speaks and the other listens — it’s an exchange. What is university life like in Vietnam? What do young Vietnamese people think about their future? What are they curious to know about you — and what can you share with them?
The conversations can be thoughtful, funny, and occasionally a little shy at first. But usually, twenty minutes later, nobody wants to stop talking. After the exchange, we’ll join the students and teachers for a vegan lunch at the university. After our lunch, we’ll say goodbye to the students and teachers – and Ho Chi Minh City – as we head out to the airport for our journey to Central Vietnam.
By late afternoon, we’ll arrive in Da Nang, a modern coastal city that has transformed enormously in recent decades. From here, we’ll continue south to Hoi An Ancient Town, and begin to notice just how much Vietnam changes as we travel.
Vietnam is unusually long and narrow, and travelling from south to north isn’t simply about changing location. Climate, accents, food, architecture and even people’s tastes begin to shift as we move through the country.
For centuries, Hoi An was an international trading port where Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese and European merchants crossed paths. When the river eventually silted up, trade moved elsewhere — and, somewhat ironically, that decline helped preserve much of the old town we see today.
But we’ll save those stories for tomorrow. Tonight, it’s dinner, check-in to our beautiful home for the next 3 days, and a good night’s sleep.
Highlights of the Day:
- Vegan Vietnamese breakfast featuring local morning staples.
- Cultural Exchange with local University students and teachers.
- Domestic Flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang.
Vegan Meals Included Today: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner & Drinks
Day 3 HOI AN
This morning, we’ll take things slowly, starting with a delicious local vegan breakfast and a relaxing massage treatment at the hotel.
Around lunchtime, we’ll head into town for a proper introduction to some of Vietnam’s many noodle dishes. Hoi An’s food tells the story of the town surprisingly well. For centuries, this was a busy international trading port, welcoming merchants from China, Japan and further afield. They brought with them not only goods, but ingredients, cooking techniques and new ways of eating. Over time, these influences mixed with local produce and the flavours of Central Vietnam, creating dishes that became distinctly Hoi An’s own. Even today, you can taste traces of that history in the town’s noodles, sauces, herbs and cooking traditions.
In the afternoon, we’ll head into the countryside to learn about one of the building blocks of Vietnamese vegan cooking: tofu. We’ll visit a local home we’ve nicknamed the “Tofu House”, where we’ll see how soybeans are transformed into the fresh tofu found every day in markets and kitchens across Vietnam.
There are no complicated machines here — just soaking, grinding, heating, straining and pressing, along with the experience to know when something looks and feels just right.
Afterwards, we’ll have an early dinner before heading back. And if Central Vietnam gives us a good sunset, we’ll stop for cocktails and watch the light change over the rice fields.
Highlights of the Day:
- Soothe your body with a relaxing Traditional Vietnamese Massage.
- Discover the World of Vietnamese Noodles — Dive into Vietnam’s incredible noodle culture, discover just how many varieties there are, and see how fresh noodles are made from scratch. Then put them to delicious use in a fragrant curry or steaming bowl of noodle soup.
- From Soybean to Tofu — Discover the traditional art of tofu making and follow the transformation from simple soybeans to fresh, silky tofu. See each stage of the process up close and learn how texture, timing, and experience create one of the most important ingredients in Vietnamese vegan cooking.
- Sunset drinks over emerald green rice fields.
Vegan Meals Included Today: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner & Drinks
Day 4 HOI AN: Herbalist's Cooking Class
Xin chào and welcome to Hoi An – the most poetic town of Vietnam. Yesterday, we watched someone else make the food. Today, it’s our turn.
We’ll begin at the home of a local herbalist, where we’ll cook together and explore something fundamental to Vietnamese food: fresh herbs. By now, you’ve probably noticed they appear everywhere — mint, perilla, coriander, Vietnamese balm and countless leaves that can look suspiciously similar at first.
But they’re far more than decoration. Vietnamese cooking is full of contrasts — hot and cool, cooked and raw, rich and fresh — and herbs bring flavour, texture and balance to the plate. Traditionally, many are also valued for their connections to health and digestion. We’ll learn about them, cook with them and, of course, eat what we make before returning to the hotel for a short break.
In the afternoon, the day takes us somewhere completely different. We’ll drive around an hour to the Kỳ Anh Tunnels, near Tam Ky. During the Vietnam War, communities across the country built underground networks for shelter, communication and resistance, and Kỳ Anh became an important tunnel system in Central Vietnam.
But this visit isn’t only about military history. It’s also about the people who lived above — and below — the tunnels. Families still had to eat, children had to be protected, meals prepared and information passed from one person to another. Everyday life somehow continued alongside the war.
We’ll explore part of the tunnel system and spend time in the surrounding village, before finishing the day over dinner with a local family.
It’s a day that begins with herbs and cooking and ends with conversations about war and memory. That contrast tells us something important about Vietnam: history isn’t separate from everyday life here. Very often, the two are sitting right beside each other.
Highlights of the Day:
- Cook with a Local Herbalist — Step into a local home, discover the herbs that give Vietnamese cooking its distinctive freshness and balance, then cook and enjoy a meal together.
- Journey Underground at Kỳ Anh — Explore the historic Kỳ Anh Tunnels and discover how local communities lived, communicated, and survived during the Vietnam War.
- Dinner with a Local Family — End the day around the dinner table, sharing food and conversation with a local family in the village — a chance to connect the history you’ve explored with life in Vietnam today.
Vegan Meals Included Today: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Zac was an amazing and knowledgeable host. The trip was essentially stress-free. Every meal was a veritable buffet. Found some really out-of-the-way places you’d be hard pressed to explore on your own. Amazing group of people. Truly one of a kind. Will certainly be going on another trip soon.
Day 5 HOI AN/AN BANG BEACH: Overnight Train to Ninh Binh
Our last morning in Hoi An belongs entirely to you.
Sleep a little longer. Wander back into the old town. Have another massage. Find a quiet café and watch the morning go by. Take one last walk along the river, pack slowly — or simply enjoy having nowhere you need to be.
After checking out, we’ll head out to An Bang Beach for lunch at Soul Kitchen. We’ve spent the last few days cooking, learning, meeting people and exploring. This afternoon is about slowing down, sitting by the sea and enjoying our final few hours in Central Vietnam.
Then, later in the day, the journey changes again: we’re taking the train north.
Vietnam’s railway runs like a spine through the country, connecting Ho Chi Minh City in the south with Hanoi in the north. Much of this route is commonly known as the Reunification Express — not one particular train, but a railway that came to symbolise a country connected once again after the war.
We’ll have an early dinner before boarding our overnight sleeper towards Ninh Binh. Tonight, we’ll let the train do the travelling for us. As the train pulls out of the station at dusk, we’ll settle into our sleeper berths, with the rhythmic hum of the tracks becoming our lullaby as we cross into a new region, dreaming of misty mountains, limestone karsts, and the ancient echoes of Ninh Binh, our next destination, which we will awake to in the morning
And when we wake tomorrow, we’ll be in Northern Vietnam — where the landscapes, flavours and rhythm of the journey begin to change all over again.
Highlights of the Day:
- A Slow Morning in Hoi An — Enjoy a free morning your way: wander through the old town, find a quiet café, have a massage or simply take your time.
- Lunch by the Sea at An Bang — Spend our final afternoon in Central Vietnam over a relaxed lunch at the beach, with time to enjoy the coast before continuing north.
- All Aboard the Reunification Express — Settle into our overnight sleeper and experience one of Vietnam’s classic journeys, waking the next morning to the landscapes of Northern Vietnam.
Vegan Meals Included Today: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner & Drinks
Day 6 NINH BINH: The Once Hidden Halong on Land
After a night on the train, we arrive in Ninh Binh, where Northern Vietnam begins to reveal itself through limestone mountains, winding rivers and vast rice fields.
First things first: a proper brunch, followed by hotel check-in and some time to freshen up after the journey.
In the afternoon, we head to Trang An, part of a UNESCO World Heritage landscape where nature and Vietnamese history are closely intertwined. A surreal world of karsts and caves carved by water and centuries. Onboard traditional sampan boats, we’ll glide along winding rivers that pass through echoing caverns, their ceilings dripping with stalactites like chandeliers of the Earth. From small rowing boats, we’ll travel along quiet waterways, beneath towering limestone cliffs and through caves carved naturally through the mountains.
These same dramatic landscapes surround Hoa Lu, the capital of Vietnam’s first independent dynasty after centuries of Chinese rule. In the 10th century, the mountains and waterways offered more than beautiful scenery — they formed a natural fortress for a young kingdom establishing its independence.
For those with some energy left, there’s an optional climb at Hang Mua. It’s steep, but the reward is one of Ninh Binh’s most spectacular views: limestone peaks rising above rice fields, with the river curling between them.
Then it’s back down for dinner, as the day winds to a close surrounded by the quiet landscapes of Ninh Binh — limestone mountains, rice fields and the gentle rhythm of life along the river. After the movement of the overnight train and a full afternoon exploring, it’s a chance to slow down and enjoy the stillness of Northern Vietnam.
Highlights of the Day:
- Wake up in Northern Vietnam — Arrive in Ninh Binh, where limestone mountains, winding rivers and rice fields introduce us to a completely different side of Vietnam.
- Row Through Trang An — Drift along peaceful waterways beneath towering limestone cliffs and through natural caves in one of Vietnam’s most spectacular UNESCO landscapes.
- Discover Vietnam’s Ancient Capital — Learn how Ninh Binh’s mountains and rivers helped protect Hoa Lu, the capital of Vietnam’s first independent dynasty in the 10th century.
- Climb to Hang Mua — For those feeling energetic, take the optional climb to one of Ninh Binh’s most iconic viewpoints, looking out across rice fields, rivers, and dramatic limestone peaks.

Day 7 NINH BINH: A Day with Bears and Forests
Today, we leave footprints with purpose. After a traditional breakfast surrounded by morning dew and the sound of the countryside coming to life in the distance, we journey into the lush embrace of Cuc Phuong National Park – Vietnam’s oldest and most biodiverse reserve. Dense forests unfold like living museums, each path lined with towering trees and stories as old as the hills. Tucked inside this green sanctuary is a very unique and important animal rescue and sanctuary, where sun bears and moon bears – once caged and exploited – now roam free, rediscovering life with dignity. Here, we don’t just observe. We listen, we learn, and we lend our hands to helping out. This is a unique and humbling opportunity to witness compassionate conservation in action.
After lunch, the day takes us into a very different world: Bai Dinh Pagoda. This vast Buddhist complex brings together ancient temple sites with newer halls, courtyards and monumental statues. Its scale is impressive, but our visit is about more than what we can see. We’ll explore the role Buddhism plays in Vietnamese life, and how it often sits alongside ancestor worship and traditional folk beliefs.
As the sun slips low, we return to our tranquil, countryside retreat. Tonight, as the countryside chorus of crickets, frogs, and the low hum of quietude starts up, we’ll enjoy a tasty dinner of local vegan dishes.
Highlights of the Day:
- Meet the Bears of Ninh Binh — Visit Bear Sanctuary Ninh Binh, hear the stories of rescued bears and learn about the work giving them a safer future.
- Step Inside Bai Dinh Pagoda — Explore one of Vietnam’s most impressive Buddhist complexes, with its vast halls, courtyards, statues and sacred spaces.
- Explore Vietnam’s Spiritual Traditions — Look beyond the temples to understand how Buddhism, ancestor worship and traditional beliefs intertwine in everyday Vietnamese life.

What a fantastic trip! It was unlike any other trip we’ve experienced. We had the opportunity to learn from and interact with people that we would never have had the opportunity to meet, and it’s given us a taste for more adventurous and more rewarding travel. We can’t thank the Vegan Travel Asia (VegVoyages) team enough for all the hard work and long hours you clearly put into making your tours so rewarding!
Day 8 NINH BINH to PU LUONG
As we leave the limestone lowlands behind, we’ll journey into the misty hills where time runs slower, and the air smells like wild lemongrass. After a 5-hour scenic drive, we arrive in Pu Luong Nature Reserve, where patchwork rice terraces drape the mountainsides and wooden stilt houses rest peacefully above whispering streams. Our home for the next two nights is in traditional Tai Dam houses, a place where warmth comes not only from the heart but from every smile exchanged. Lunch is a celebration of the land – a vibrant, vegan spread made from organic farm ingredients, some harvested just steps away.
After lunch and some time to settle into our homestays, we’ll head out for a gentle walk through the village. There’s no major sight we’re rushing towards here — the point is simply to slow down and notice where we are. We’ll follow small paths between homes and rice fields, meet some of the families who live here and begin to get a sense of the rhythms of everyday life in Pu Luong. It’s also our first chance to learn a little more about the Thai community, their traditions and their relationship with this landscape.
For the next two days, we’re deliberately changing the rhythm of the journey. The roads get smaller, the scenery gets greener, and there are fewer places we need to be at a particular time. After moving through cities, airports, trains and some of Vietnam’s major sights, Pu Luong gives us space to experience the country differently — through its landscapes, its villages and the people who call them home.
After dinner, the evening becomes a little livelier. Members of the local Thai and Muong communities will join us to share traditional music and dance, passed between generations and still very much part of community celebrations today. This isn’t intended to be a performance where we simply sit and watch from a distance. There’ll be plenty of opportunity to join in — and don’t expect to remain in the audience for very long.
Highlights of the Day:
- Journey into Rural Vietnam — Leave the highways behind as we travel into Pu Luong Nature Reserve, where mountains, forests and rice terraces take over the landscape.
- Stay with the Local Community — Spend two nights in traditional stilt-house homestays, and experience village life from a much closer perspective.
- Slow Down & Explore the Village — Wander along small paths between homes and rice fields, meet local families and discover the everyday rhythms and traditions of the Thai community.
- An Evening of Music & Dance — Join members of the Thai and Muong communities for traditional music and dancing — with a very good chance you’ll end up taking part yourself.

Day 9 PU LUONG
Wake up to birdsongs and the hush of mountain fog lifting from the valley. We’ll enjoy a simple yet delicious breakfast. Then we’ll head out for a gentle walk through the village and surrounding countryside. Along the way, we’ll carry bags and collect some of the litter we find. It’s a small gesture — certainly not something that will solve a global problem — but if we’re fortunate enough to enjoy these landscapes, we think it’s worth leaving them a little cleaner than we found them.
The afternoon is all about cultural exchange — through food.
Our host families will show us how they make Vietnamese spring rolls, sharing the ingredients and techniques they use at home. Then we’ll turn the tables: it’s your turn to teach them something. The only challenge? Whatever you make needs to use ingredients we can actually find in the village. One previous group introduced their hosts to mashed potatoes; perhaps yours will leave behind a new favourite.
There’s no professional kitchen and no carefully choreographed cooking demonstration. It’s simply people cooking together — swapping techniques, improvising with what’s available, laughing when things don’t quite go to plan, and eventually sitting down to enjoy what we’ve made.
After dinner, we’ll keep things simple. Depending on the weather and the mood of the evening, we’ll gather around a bonfire or settle in together for a screening of short films.
No major sights today and nowhere we need to rush to — just a day of walking, cooking, sharing, and spending time together in the village. Sometimes the simplest days are the ones we remember best.
Highlights of the Day:
- Special local breakfast as we wake up to crisp mountain air and the scent of wood smoke cooking our vegan meal.
- Walk with a Purpose — Explore the village and surrounding countryside.
- Learn to Make Vietnamese Spring Rolls — Join our host families in the kitchen and discover how they prepare one of Vietnam’s best-known dishes at home.
- Turn the Tables & Share a Recipe — Now it’s your turn to cook. Using ingredients available in the village, introduce our hosts to a dish from your own home or travels.
- A Simple Evening Together — Wind down around a bonfire or with a screening of short films — an easy-going end to a day built around sharing, rather than sightseeing.

Day 10 PU LUONG to HANOI
After two nights in the mountains, it’s time to return to city life.
We’ll have an early breakfast, say goodbye to our hosts and begin the journey to Hanoi. Over the next five hours, we’ll watch the landscape change around us as mountain roads and rice fields gradually give way to towns, traffic and the growing energy of Vietnam’s capital.
After lunch and hotel check-in, the afternoon is deliberately yours.
Hanoi is a city that rewards wandering without much of a plan. Find a tiny coffee shop tucked down an alley, stroll around Hoan Kiem Lake, lose yourself in the streets of the Old Quarter, have a massage, or simply enjoy the comforts of the hotel after two nights in the village.
In the evening, we’ll come together again for the Gốm Show. Gốm means ceramics, and this unusual performance explores Vietnamese culture through clay — using ceramic instruments, movement and sound to turn one of the country’s oldest crafts into something entirely unexpected. After the past few days surrounded by village life and traditional crafts, it’s an interesting bridge between the Vietnam we’ve just left behind and the creative energy of Hanoi.
Then it’s time to settle in and enjoy our first night in the capital.
Highlights of the Day:
- Special local breakfast as we wake up to crisp mountain air and the scent of wood smoke cooking our vegan meal.
- From Mountains to Metropolis – Watch the landscape transform as we leave the quiet villages of Pu Luong behind and make our way into the energy of Hanoi.
- Hanoi at Your Own Pace – Enjoy a free afternoon to wander the Old Quarter, stroll around Hoan Kiem Lake, find a hidden cafe or simply relax and settle into the capital.
- Experience the Gom Show – Discover an unexpected side of Vietnamese creativity as clay and ceramics become music, bringing traditional craftsmanship to life through sound and performance.

Day 11 HANOI
Today, we get to know Hanoi through two very different but deeply rooted parts of Vietnamese life: coffee and the stories of its women.
We begin with a hands-on Vietnamese coffee workshop. Vietnam is now one of the world’s largest coffee producers, but its relationship with coffee only began in the 19th century, when it was introduced during the French colonial period. Since then, Vietnam has very much made coffee its own.
Here, coffee is more than something you grab on the way to work. Tiny cafés spill onto pavements, friends linger over a single glass, and different regions have developed their own ways of preparing and enjoying it. This morning, we’ll go beyond simply drinking it. We’ll learn about Vietnamese coffee beans, how they’re roasted and brewed, and try our hand at making a few local favourites ourselves.
After lunch, we continue to the Vietnamese Women’s Museum.
By this point in the journey, we’ve already met many Vietnamese women — students in Saigon, food makers in Hoi An and members of the families who welcomed us into their homes in Pù Luông. The museum gives us a chance to place some of those encounters within a much bigger story.
Through stories of family, marriage, work, traditional dress, spirituality and war, we’ll explore Vietnamese history from a perspective that doesn’t always make it into the usual history books. And it isn’t simply a story of famous figures. Much of the museum focuses on everyday lives — mothers, farmers, street vendors, workers and women from Vietnam’s many ethnic communities.
We’ll finish with dinner together, after a day that gives us another way to understand Vietnam — through the everyday rituals people enjoy, and the everyday lives that have helped shape the country.
Highlights of the Day:
- Experience Vietnamese Coffee – Get hands-on with Vietnam’s coffee culture, learning about local beans and brewing techniques before making – and tasting – a few favorites yourself.
- Discover the Stories of Vietnamese Women – Explore the Vietnamese Women’s Museum and see the country’s history through stories of family, work, tradition, spirituality, and war.

Day 12 HA LONG BAY: : Where Water Meets Sky
As dawn gently lifts over Hanoi, we leave behind the city’s murmur and set off toward the coast. The landscape unfolds in layers – rice fields, rivers, villages – each mile bringing us closer to the edge of something timeless. By early afternoon, we arrive at the harbor where we board our boat for where we’ll spend the day and overnight, cruising Ha Long’s epic, stunning, and famous bay. Stepping aboard, we’ll settle into our cozy cabins and set out into the panoramic bay whose scenery stretches out as far as the eye can see, it seems, in all directions. As the boat drifts into a dreamscape of jade waters and towering limestone karsts, sculpted by wind and waves over millennia, we’ll settle down on deck for a vegan lunch as we glide past surreal formations. Today we’ll explore Ha Long Bay by boat, and if the weather permits, by kayak. As twilight paints the sky in purples and blues, we’ll enjoy refreshing drinks and a delicious dinner of vegan delicacies reflective of our time in Vietnam together. After almost two weeks of travelling through cities and villages, temples and kitchens, meeting people and hearing their stories, this is another chance to let everything slow down.
Highlights of the Day:
- Cruise Through Ha Long Bay – Board our overnight boat and journey between the dramatic limestone islands of one of Vietnam’s most extraordinary landscapes.
- Slow Down on the Water – Kayak, or simply relax onboard as the scenery drifts past, before spending a peaceful evening surrounded by the bay.

Day 13 HA LONG BAY to HANOI
If you’re an early riser, this is a morning worth getting up for.
There’s something special about waking up surrounded by Ha Long Bay, before the boats get busy and while the limestone islands are still emerging through the morning light. We’ll enjoy breakfast onboard, take in the last views from the bay, and then check out of our cabins before saying goodbye to the crew.
But our journey isn’t quite finished yet.
On the way back to Hanoi, we have one very special lunch planned. Rather than stopping at a restaurant, we’ll be welcomed into the home of our Vietnamese tour leader’s family. After nearly two weeks of exploring Vietnam together — sharing meals, meeting people, discovering new places and collecting plenty of stories along the way — it feels fitting that one of our final meals should be around a family table. By now, we hope our group has started to feel a little like a family of its own, so this special lunch should feel less like another stop on the journey and more like coming home together — nothing staged and nothing formal, just enjoying delicious home-cooked meals, at home, with family.
After lunch, we’ll continue back to Hanoi, with some time to rest and freshen up before coming together one last time for our Final Farewell Dinner — a chance to raise a glass to the people we’ve met, the places we’ve explored and everything we’ve experienced together over the past two weeks.
Highlights of the Day:
- Come Home to a Family Table – share a special lunch at our family’s home, where after two weeks of traveling and experiencing Vietnam together, we’ll gather around the table, as family of our own.
- Final Farewell Dinner – Come together one last time in Hanoi to celebrate the people we’ve met, the places we’ve discovered, and all the memories we’ve made along the way.

Day 14 HANOI to Ho Chi Minh: A Gentle Goodbye
And somehow, we’ve reached our final morning in Vietnam.
There’s no last-minute schedule to squeeze in today. Enjoy breakfast, take one final wander through Hanoi, find a few last souvenirs, or sit down for one more Vietnamese coffee and watch the city go by before packing your bags.
Depending on your onward plans, we’ll arrange your transfer to the airport for your departure from Hanoi or your flight south to Ho Chi Minh City.
Over the past two weeks, we’ve crossed Vietnam from south to north — by plane, train, bus and boat. We’ve eaten in restaurants and family homes, cooked alongside locals, met students, musicians and community members, and slept everywhere from city hotels to village homestays. We’ve experienced Vietnam through its food and landscapes, its history and traditions, but most importantly, through its people.
Hopefully, you leave having seen some extraordinary places and tasted some unforgettable food. But more than that, we hope you leave feeling that you didn’t simply visit Vietnam. You met Vietnam — its people, its stories, its flavours, its complexities and its incredible warmth. Even if only for two weeks, you became part of its everyday life.
So, for now, safe travels home. And perhaps this isn’t really goodbye; rather, this is Hẹn gặp lại — see you again!
Highlights of the Day:
- One Last Morning in Hanoi – Enjoy the capital at your own pace, with time for a final wander, a favorite cafe, or simply watching the city go by.
- Leave Having Met Vietnam – Look back on two weeks of shared meals, local encounters, unexpected moments, and journeys across the country – leaving with more than memories of the places you visited, but a real connection to the people and stories behind them.
- Flight back to Ho Chi Minh City.
